Young, Jean Elizabeth
Jean Elizabeth Young, 93, of Manchester, died Nov. 25, 2011. Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 29, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Manchester by the Rev. Richard Gaul. Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Manchester, where there will be an 8 p.m. Scripture service. Additional visitation: one hour before services Tuesday at the church. Burial: St. Mary Catholic Cemetery, Manchester.
Jean was born Nov. 15, 1918, in Manchester, the daughter of Frank L. and Ethyl (Morgan) Barnd. She graduated from St. Xavier's High School. In 1938, she was united in marriage to Noble “Bud” Young at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Manchester. Jean was a homemaker and secretary for Bill Francois and Norm and Randy Fiddelke Real Estate businesses.
Jean was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Manchester and Catholic Daughters of America, volunteering for many years at St. Mary's where the kids loved her.
Family was very important to her, enjoying the grandchildren's activities and spending time with them. She enjoyed traveling, cherished lifelong friendships, and was a lady of great hospitality.
Jean is survived by three children, Linda (William) Appleby of Des Moines, Dan (Sue) Young of Bettendorf and Jim (Jo Ann) Young of Cedar Rapids; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and special friends, Myrna Milroy and Barb and Randy Fiddelke.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Ethyl Barnd; and her husband, Noble Young.
