Rodman, Donald Charles
Donald Charles Rodman, 70, went to heaven on April 16, 2010, after a long fight with COPD. A Celebration of Life service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 21, at St. James United Methodist Church, 1430 Ellis Blvd. NW, with lunch to follow.
Donald was born Jan. 29, 1940. He married Alleen Marie Martin on Dec. 2, 1967. He started at the Cedar Rapids Street Department as a heavy equipment operator and retired as acting director of public works after 36 years.
He enjoyed exploring the Cedar River with his family, fishing, hunting and classic cards. Donald's favorite vacation spots were northern Minnesota and Mountain View, Ark. He loved gospel, Bluegrass and classical music, reading old west novels and working in the yard. He was happiest with his grandchildren.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Dorothy (Robinson) Rodman.
He is survived by his wife, Alleen; his sisters, Donna (Larry) Funk, Virginia (Marvin) Shaffer and Julia (Mick) Ransome; his children and grandchildren: Dawn and her girls, Elizabeth (Efren) Moraneo and Karra (Mike) Ferguson; Bill (Sheri) and his girls, Maliesa (Jade) Sears, Michelle, Kristin, Amie and Grace; Christopher (Christine) and their children, Carter, Quinn, Emma and Skyler; and Marci and her daughter, Jessie. He left behind 11 great-grandchildren: Austin, Alysalynn, Avery, Aydan, Andres, Collin, Dally, Jadyn, Lucas, James and Sulleigh Bryann.
Donald will truly be missed. We love you Dad!
