Stewart, Donald H.
Donald H. Stewart, 82, of Lisbon, died Thursday, Aug. 5, 2010, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids, due to complications of surgery. Funeral service: 11 a.m. Monday at Morgan Funeral and Cremation Choices, Mount Vernon Chapel, by Celebrant Mary Morgan. Friends may call Sunday from 3 to 6 p.m. at the chapel. Don is to be buried in Lisbon Cemetery, with military honors. A luncheon will be served at Gwen's Restaurant, Lisbon, after the graveside committal.
Surviving Don are his children: two daughters, Gwen (Gary) Drahos and Linette (Leo) Geissler, Lisbon; a son, Dennis (Barbara) Stewart, Watkins, Iowa; two brothers, Jim Stewart, Toddville, and LeRoy Stewart, Cedar Rapids; and two sisters, Leona Thompson, Cedar Rapids, and Patty Kay Baker, Gainesville, Mo. Also surviving Don are five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Don was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Caroline.
Don was born June 16, 1928, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Harve E. and Irene Leeper Stewart. He proudly served with the U.S. Navy on the heavy cruiser, U.S.S. Helena, and the Battleship, U.S.S. Iowa. He married Caroline Berry in June 1948, in Bertram. She died Jan. 8, 2008. Don and his family lived south of Mount Vernon from 1954 until moving to Lisbon in 1992. He retired in 1990 after 32 years as an electrician and was a member of IBEW Local 405 of Cedar Rapids.
Don had a very special friend, Jo Thomson. Don enjoyed spending time bass fishing and playing Keno.
He dearly loved his family and will be greatly missed by his family and all who knew him.
A memorial fund in Don's honor is established.
