Velma Mae Svatosch, 89, of Mount Vernon, passed away Friday, May 1, 2015, at Hallmark Care Center, Mount Vernon. Funeral services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 5, at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services,
Mount Vernon (formerly Morgan's), by Celebrant Mary Morgan. Visitation is one hour before the service at the funeral home. Burial: Mount Vernon Memorial Cemetery.
Velma was born in rural Cedar County on Aug. 19, 1925, daughter of Frank and Julia (Marker) Bair. She attended Cedar County country and Tipton School. She married Stanley Svatosch on April 16, 1941. Velma resided in Mount Vernon for 70 years, working various jobs locally, and retiring from food service at Cornell College.
Survivors include her children, Marjorie (Larry) McAtee of Tipton, Les Svatosch of Tipton and Wilma (Jim) Murphy of Tennessee; sister, Beverly Ohrt of Tipton; six grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Stanley; four brothers; daughter-in-law, Joan; and a grandson, Jeff Murphy.
