Kaufmann broke his word on heartbeat bill

I read with interest Helen Kudos' letter ('Bobby Kaufmann's votes favor corporate greed,” April 27).
The letter mentioned Iowa Rep. Kaufmann's votes against clean energy, education, worker safety and local control. I would add to that list that Kaufmann also said he would not vote for the extreme fetal heartbeat bill, the most restrictive in the nation. The bill, now signed into law by Gov. Kim Reynolds, makes termination of a pregnancy illegal at six weeks, before many would even know they are pregnant.
Kaufmann has said publicly that he feels 'insulted” that women want to claim this choice for themselves. The Republican legislature has managed to pass these extreme laws because they hold the majority in both the Iowa House and Senate, as well as the governorship.
Far from being a moderate, Kaufmann is doing his part to promote the extreme Republican agenda - bad for women, bad for workers, bad for the environment, good for corporations and the 1 percent.
