IOWA CITY — After a year away, Brenda Frese and C. Vivian Stringer will return to Carver-Hawkeye Arena next winter.
A native of Cedar Rapids, Frese will bring her Maryland Terrapins to Iowa City for a women's basketball game, and Stringer — a former Iowa coach — is now at Rutgers and nearing her 1,000th career victory.
On Thursday, The Big Ten announced conference assignments for the 2018-19 Big Ten women's season, which will consist of 18 games.
In addition to Maryland and Rutgers, the Hawkeyes will host Northwestern and Wisconsin and will travel to Indiana, Minnesota, Ohio State and Penn State.
They will play Michigan, Michigan State, Illinois, Nebraska and Purdue both home and away.
Iowa was 24-8 last season, reaching the NCAA Tournament for the first time in three years. The Hawkeyes were beaten by Creighton in the first round. They finished 11-5 in the Big Ten, good for a third-place tie.
The Hawkeyes return the majority of their roster for next season, led by All-American Megan Gustafson, the 2018 Big Ten player of the year as voted upon by the media.
No game dates have been determined, either for Big Ten games or non-conference encounters.
