Big Ten reprimands former Hawkeye and Illinois assistant Perry

Mark Perry's displeasure of officials apparently drew the displeasure of the Big Ten Conference.

The Big Ten Conference released a "public reprimand" Wednesday for the University of Illinois assistant's comments that followed last Friday's dual against top-ranked Penn State. Perry, a four-time All-American, three-time national finalist and two-time NCAA champion for the University of Iowa from 2004-08, criticized the officials of the meet.

The Big Ten said it considers the matter closed and will have no further comment.

Big Ten Issues Public Reprimand of

Illinois Wrestling Associate Head Coach Mark Perry

Rosemont, Ill. – The Big Ten Conference office today issued a public reprimand of Illinois wrestling associate head coach Mark Perry for violating the Big Ten Sportsmanship Policy following Illinois' dual meet at Penn State on Jan. 24, 2014.

The Big Ten determined that Perry's post-meet comments regarding officials were in violation of Big Ten Conference Agreement 10.01, which states in part that “The Big Ten Conference expects all contests involving a member institution to be conducted without compromise to any fundamental element of sportsmanship. Such fundamental elements include integrity of the competition, civility toward all, and respect, particularly toward opponents and officials.”

The Big Ten Conference considers this matter concluded and will have no further comment.
