Ex-Hawkeyes Devyn Marble and Mike Gesell meet in Denmark

For the second time this season, the basketball teams of former University of Iowa players Devyn Marble and Mike Gesell met each other in Europe.
Marble's Aris BC team of Thessaloniki, Greece defeated Gesell's Bakken Bears club of Aarhus, Denmark Tuesday in Aarhus, 92-78. Gesell had 12 points and 6 rebounds in 27 minutes. Marble scored two points in 14 minutes. Here is the box score:
On Oct. 26, Marble had 21 points as Aris defeated Bakken in Thessaloniki, 82-66.
They are two of the 40 teams in the first-year Basketball Champions League. There are five groups of eight teams, with a 14-game round-robin schedule. Sixteen teams advance to the next round, then eight to the following round. There is a Final Four in April.
Aris is 6-3 and in the hunt to advance in the tournament. Bakken is 1-8.
The Champions League games are played in midweek. The teams play in their national leagues on the weekend. Marble is averaging 11.2 points for Aris, which is 6-4 in the Greek HEBA A1 League. Aris has won 10 Greek League championships.
Marble is a third-year pro. He spent the last two seasons on the roster of the NBA's Orlando Magic.
Bakken is the traditional powerhouse of the Danish Basketligaen. It is 9-1 in that league. Gesell is a first-year pro who averages 11.1 points and a team-high 2.8 assists.
