State softball Tuesday: Quarterfinal scores, photos and recaps

The Iowa high school state softball tournament continued Tuesday with the remaining 10 quarterfinal games.
Class 3A's first round wrapped up first, then 4A and 5A teams took the field. Catch up with all the scores and coverage here.
CLASS 5A QUARTERFINALS
No. 6 Urbandale 5, No. 3 Cedar Rapids Jefferson 3
Jessica Walljasper's fifth-inning RBI single broke a 3-3 tie as Urbandale won the battle of J-Hawks. Anna Simon added an insurance run in the sixth with a solo home run. Jefferson loaded the bases in the seventh, but Bella Crow got Emily Oler to ground into a fielder's choice.
Lindsey Culver and Erica Oler hit homers for Jefferson, which scored first in the third, then tied it at 3 in the fourth.

No. 7 Pleasant Valley 6, No. 2 West Des Moines Valley 4 (9 innings)
Alexia Lara hit a two-run blast in the top of the ninth to propel PV to a first-round upset.
No. 9 hitter Rachel Tebbe also went yard and finished 2-for-4 with four RBIs. The Spartans led 4-1 before Valley rallied to tie it in the fifth.
No. 4 Cedar Rapids Kennedy 7, No. 5 Johnston 4
There will be a new champion in Class 5A. Jenna Schwartzoff's three-run home run got the scoring started in the top of the fourth and Kennedy eventually led 7-0 in the sixth before Johnston mustered a rally.
The Dragons scored three times in the sixth and once in the seventh, then brought the tying run to the plate before the Cougars closed the door. Abby Spore had two RBIs for Kennedy, which won a state tournament game for the first time since 1982.

No. 1 Waukee 3, No. 8 West Des Moines Dowling 1
Waukee beat Dowling for the second time in as many weeks by a nearly identical score (3-0 on July 5).
The Warriors grabbed an early lead on Sarah Schaefer's two-run homer in the top of the first. In the circle, Schaefer allowed just a first-inning run, scattering seven hits over seven innings.
CLASS 4A QUARTERFINALS
No. 3 Ballard 11, No. 6 Carlisle 5
Ballard scored in the first four innings, leading 7-0 after two and 10-0 after four but couldn't quite end it early against a Raccoon River Conference foe.
Rachel Newell was 4-for-4 and scored three runs. Isabell Hobbs hit a triple and home run and drove in six. Skylar Rigby went 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles and RBIs.
No. 7 Charles City 5, No. 2 Fairfield 4
Shantel VanHauen's single to center gave Charles City a walk-off win after Fairfield tied it on Bryanna Bowman's sixth-inning sac fly.
Ciara Sonberg was 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs for the Comets, who are in the semifinals for the first time since 1995.
No. 4 Oskaloosa 3, No. 5 Mount Pleasant 2 (8 innings)
Meghan Moorman's eighth-inning RBI double scored Emily Richmond and put the defending state champions back in the semifinals.
Osky took a 2-1 lead in the sixth on Taylor Wills' home run, but the Panthers forced extras with Chi Glaha's RBI single.
No. 1 Winterset 5, No. 8 Sergeant Bluff-Luton 2
The Huskies jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first and never looked back.
Jessie Nicholson and Grace McDonald each had two hits, a run and an RBI.
CLASS 3A QUARTERFINALS
No. 6 Mount Vernon 11, No. 3 Sioux Center 5
Mount Vernon had 18 hits and took advantage of five Sioux Center errors to cruise to the semifinals. The big inning came in the fourth, when MV scored six times to go up 9-1.
Sydney Hauser, Noelle Ossenkop and Lauren Hauser each had three hits for the Mustangs, who left 14 runners on base. Ossenkop drove in four.

No. 7 Albia 9, No. 2 Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley 6
Albia matched BHRV's four-run second inning with four runs of its own to take a 5-4 lead. After the Nighthawks tied it in the fourth, Jena Lawrence's RBI double put the Lady Dees back in front and Kennedy Schroeder added to the lead with a two-run single.
Albia leadoff hitter Hannah Isley was 3-for-3 with three runs and three RBIs.
