Curtis Wayne Talbott, 51, of Fairfax, died Tuesday, May 20, 2014, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids, following an extended illness. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 24, at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories, Cedar Rapids. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 23, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Interment will take place at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
He is survived by his wife, Lori Talbott, and a daughter, Nicole Rae Talbott, both of Fairfax; three stepchildren, Megan (Bryce Stalberger) Riley of Corvallis, Ore., and Alyse (Elliott) Riley-Poma and Benjamin Riley, both of Iowa City; two grandchildren, Brooklyn Riley-Poma and Rhett Stalberger; his mother, Barbara Thurman of St. Joseph, Mo.; a sister, Debbie (John) Martin of St. Joseph, Mo.; and a brother, Eddie (Yvonne) Talbott of Washington, Mo.
Curtis was preceded in death by his infant son, Austin Wayne Talbott; a brother, Richard Talbott; his father, Floyd Talbott; and stepfather, Jack Thurman.
Curtis Wayne Talbott was born June 13, 1962, in Gardner, Kan., the son of Floyd Talbott and Barbara (Clark) Thurman. Curtis attended Fort Osage High School in Independence, Mo. After graduation, Curtis furthered his education by earning a Bachelor of Science degree from Iowa State University. He was employed at Rockwell Collins for 25 years as a principal software engineer, Data Link. Curtis married Lori Riley Aug. 3, 2013, in Fairfax.
Curtis enjoyed tennis, disc golf, the TV show, Big Brother, and was a lifelong die-hard fan of the Kansas City Chiefs. He also was an Iowa State fan. What he treasured most was the time he was given to spend with his wife, daughter Nicole, stepchildren and grandchildren.
He was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, and will be missed dearly by those closest to him.
The family would like to thank Dr. Ghosh and his staff at The Ghosh Center for their love, support and tender care given to Curtis.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to the Ghosh Center Foundation and United Mitochondrial Disease Foundation.
