Morarie, Roy Eugene Sr.
Roy Eugene Morarie Sr., 77, died peacefully at home on Tuesday, August 2, 2011, after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by his loving family members and friends. Memorial Service: 1 p.m. Wednesday, August 10, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids by the Rev. William Jamison.
Roy was born May 8, 1934, to Fred and Emma Morarie in Coggon. He attended schools in the rural Coggon areas. After graduation, he entered the U.S. Navy, serving from 1953 to 1955. After being discharged from the armed forces, Roy started his lifelong career in the automobile industry as the owner of R & S Salvage. Roy stayed in the salvage/mechanic service until retirement. Roy's joys and amusement in later life came from spending time with his love and companion of 21 years, Norma Himinger; his grandson, Cody Brown; his four legged friends, Lady & PeeWee; fishing and camping, and of course tinkering with automobiles. Roy loved many and was loved by all.
Survivors include his love of 21 years, Norma Himinger; two sons, Roy (Lori) Morarie Jr. of Cedar Rapids and Steven Morarie of Wichita, Kan.; a daughter, Heather (Michael) Gorsh of Wisconsin; two stepchildren by love, Tammy Williams and Shawn Williams of California; seven grandchildren, Jamie (Jay) Meyers, Rachel Meyers, Roy Morarie III, Derek (Veronica) Xayasouk, Dalacia Xayasouk, D.J. Xayasouk, and Cody Brown; seven stepgrandchildren, Shanise, Egypt, Tacoma, Cyphs, Ileansha, Tarnade, Stephanie; two great-grandchildren, Anthony Xayasouk and Haley Xayasouk; a sister, Muriel Meritt of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; and special friends, Elmer Loyld, Joe, Smoe, Charlie Brown and Lori.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Paul and Bill Morarie; one sister, Hazel Oniel; and one great-grandchild, Arron Xayasouk.
A memorial fund has been established in Roy's memory.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Dr. Warren and staff and to St. Luke's Hospice personnel.
