Schlotfelt, Maryann Laura
Maryann Laura Schlotfelt, 73, of Palo, joined our Lord in Heaven on Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2012, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids, following an extended illness. Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 1, at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories, Cedar Rapids. Visitation will be Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. also at the Chapel of Memories. Burial will follow the service on Saturday at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery in Cedar Rapids.
Maryann was born July 3, 1939, in La Porte City, Iowa, the daughter of John and Ruth (Haberichter) Scheib. She was raised by her aunt and uncle, William and Lucy Bernstorf, in Keystone, Iowa. Maryann Laura married Donald Joe Schlotfelt in Cedar Rapids on Nov. 22, 1961.
Although Maryann had numerous jobs in retail and business, including The Gazette, J.C. Penney, Armstrong's, and IRI, her greatest joy was being a wife and mother. She enjoyed being surrounded by family and friends and creating many memories at their cabin near Troy Mills. She was also an active member of Hope Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids.
Maryann is survived by her husband; three children, Bill (Lori) Schlotfelt, Amy (Todd) Benda and Mike (Shannon) Schlotfelt; grandchildren, Donny, Jessica, Stacey, Jonathan, Josh, Angelina, Braeden and Killian; and special cousins, Ardeth Kirschbaum and Duane Haberichter.
She was preceded in death by her parents; aunt, Lucy, and uncle, Bill; and her brother, David John.
