DeMean, Dorothy Laura
Dorothy Laura DeMean, 84, died Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2009, at University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics, Iowa City, following a brief illness. Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Goettsch Funeral Home in Anamosa. The Rev. Michael Kleeberger will officiate at the service. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Interment will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Monticello.

Surviving are her children, Gene (Phyllis) DeMean, Linda Cooper, Leann (John) Knupp and Lynnette (Ken) Jordan; a daughter-in-law, Linda (Bob) Ahlrichs; two sisters, Susan Vaughn and Darlene Wrigley; two brothers, Vernon Bell and Darrell (Carolyn) Bell; 19 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harry; a son, Harlan; a sister, Pat Griffith; and four brothers, Fred, Charles, Lawrence and Jimmy.
Dorothy Laura Bell was born April 22, 1925, on the family farm near Conesville, Iowa, the daughter of Charles and Edith Walker Bell. On Dec. 31, 1941, Dorothy and Harry R. DeMean were united in marriage in Monticello, Mo. Dorothy enjoyed flowers, canning and crocheting Afghan blankets for everyone in the family. Her deepest love was for her children and their families.
She will be missed dearly by those closest to her.
