Laura was born April 19, 1910, in Hopkinton, Iowa. She was the daughter of Perry and Ella Campbell Wheeless. Laura graduated from the Hopkinton High School in 1928 and Lenox College in 1930. She taught school for a year before marrying Randall Morgan on Jan. 9, 1932. They made their home in Hopkinton until 1940, when they moved to Cedar Rapids. They moved to Bloomington, Minn. in 1953, and came back to Hopkinton, to make a home for Laura's mother in 1964.
After returning to Hopkinton, Laura was active in the Delaware County Historical Society and served on the board of directors for 30 years. She was devoted to Lenox College and the history of Hopkinton. She was a granddaughter of some of the town's earliest settlers from 1858 and became the “town historian” since she was the town's oldest citizen. For her 100th birthday, the town planted a tree in her honor on the Lenox College campus. She was a life long member of the First Presbyterian Church in Hopkinton. She loved to travel and spend time with her daughter, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughter, Joan Bek of Monticello; a sister, Helen Martin of Cedar Rapids; a grandson, Dr. Jeff (Becky) Bek of Virginia Beach, Va.; a niece, Jean Cram of Cedar Rapids; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Randall Morgan; and a grandson, Joel Bek.
