                                    Manson, Laura Sue
Laura Sue Manson was born Nov. 20, 1946, in Deshler, Neb., to Ervin and Friedora Hornbostel. She was baptized on Dec. 8, 1946, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Deshler, by Pastor H. Krohn. She was confirmed on March 26, 1961, at Peace Lutheran Church in Deshler by Pastor E.C. Werner. The Bible verse given to her at confirmation was John 14:6.
Laura married Charles Pagel on April 6, 1969. Charles died on Dec. 9, 1979. Her daughter, Cynthia died on April 29, 1995.
Laura is survived by her husband, Richard; her son, Geoffrey Pagel, his wife Angela, and their two sons, Joshua and Jonah; her sisters, Dorothea and Julia; and her brother Gregory.
Laura completed grades one through eight at St. Peter's Lutheran School and grades nine through 12 at Deshler Public High School. She graduated from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln with a degree in Elementary Education. She was hired by the Cedar Rapids Community School District where she taught from 1969 to 2002. She returned as a paraprofessional from 2002 to 2010.
Laura was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. She was a Red Hatter, member of Alpha Delta Kappa, member of a Bible study group, loved scrapbooking and stamping and enjoyed cooking and baking. Her greatest love was spending time with her family.
A memorial service will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1363 First Ave. SW, Cedar Rapids, at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 18. There will be no internment. Following the service a reception will be held at the church from noon to 2 p.m.
Arrangements entrusted to Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that people make a donation in Laura's name to the American Cancer Society () or Reading Is Fundamental ().
