Iowa City Regina's girls' basketball team is still undefeated. But the Regals will have to settle for the No. 2 ranking in Class 2A despite No. 1 Unity Christian's first loss.
Western Christian leaped from No. 5 to the top spot in this week's IGHSAU rankings after beating the Knights 59-48 last Saturday. The Wolfpack's two losses came in the first week of their season against 3A top-10 teams.
The other No. 1s remained the same, including Cedar Rapids Kennedy in 5A ahead of Friday's MVC Valley Division showdown at No. 10 Cedar Falls.
Turkey Valley is No. 1 in Class 1A, Pocahontas Area in 3A and Harlan in 4A.
Area movers include Montezuma joining the Class 1A rankings at No. 15, Monticello going from ninth to 13th following a loss to Northeast last Friday and West Branch falling from No. 4 to No. 7 in 2A after Tuesday's 53-50 loss to Tipton. No. 11 Cascade dropped out of the 3A poll.
This set of rankings is particularly important in the smaller three classes as it will help determine regional pairings, to be released Monday.
