Prep football roundup: Cochrane powers Mount Vernon to come-from-behind win

Jack Cochrane scored five second-half touchdowns as seventh-ranked Mount Vernon rallied for a 41-28 Class 3A second-round prep football playoff win over No. 8 Central Lee Monday night in Donnellson.
Down 28-7 at halftime, the Mustangs scored 35 unanswered points - all by Cochrane, who finished with 157 yards on 13 carries and also picked off a pass late in the game. Cochrane scored on runs of 4, 3, 5, 1 and 12 yards - most set up by the passing of Drew Adams, who finished 32 of 49 for 314 yards and one TD.
The Mustangs take a 9-2 record into Friday's quarterfinals at Anamosa.
SOUTH TAMA 49, NEW HAMPTON 0
- Behind a lockdown defense and a balanced offensive attack No. 3 South Tama secured its eighth shutout in 11 games this season with a Class 2A win at home.
South Tama (11-0) jumped on New Hampton (5-6) early, scoring on its first three possessions. Dynamic quarterback Darius Lasley-Sheilds rushed for two touchdowns and passed for another, finishing 13 of 18 for 184 yards. He was supported by Jerry Lowe, who rushed for 133 yards and two touchdowns on 20 carries.
Defensively, South Tama held New Hampton to four first downs.

DON BOSCO 74, TURKEY VALLEY 34
- Nick Mangrich rushed for 294 yards and five touchdowns as top-ranked Don Bosco rolled into the 8-player quarterfinals with a win in Gilbertville.
Mangrich's effort was part of a 498-yard rushing night for the Dons (9-0), who led 54-14 at halftime after falling behind early, 6-0.
Mangrich scored on runs of 48, 1, 62, 5 and 36.
Cody Hackman was 8 of 13 for 207 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Trojans (7-3).

ELKADER CENTRAL 28, HLV 14
- Quarterback Derek Ehrhardt threw for 118 yards and a touchdown and picked up 95 yards and two TDs on the ground to lead Central (11-0) in an 8-player second round game at Elkader.
Aaron Hoth added 17 carries for 130 yards and a touchdown for the Warriors, who will host Don Bosco in a quarterfinal matchup on Friday.
HLV finishes its season 9-2.
NORTH FAYETTE VALLEY 52, HAMPTON-DUMONT 28
- Trey Kuhens rushed for 219 yards and two touchdowns and Dillon Baumler also scored twice at the TigerHawks won in West Union.
Defending state champion North Fayette Valley (9-2) advances to the quarterfinals, hosting Waukon.
BETTENDORF 43, I.C. WEST 18
- At halftime, it had all the makings of a major upset. Then within minutes, it was over.
A handful of West mistakes and a 5-foot-7 bolt of lightning named Carlos Wilson combined to turn the game around and send Bettendorf on its way to victory.
Bettendorf had only a 13-6 lead before everything went to pieces for West in the second half.
