CENTER POINT — Ball control, winning the turnover battle and some good special teams play usually spells victory on the football field.
That is precisely the formula Cascade used last night in a 28-21 prep football win over Center Point-Urbana at Rogers Field.
Cascade controlled the ball on two long drives — one of 80 yards in 17 plays, the other 63 yards in seven plays — that led to scores.
The Stormin' Pointers fumbled six times, losing four and gave up an interception to the Cougars, a point that didn't sit well with CPU Coach Dan Burke.
'The turnovers killed us, I don't know if it was the cold weather or what, but when you think we gave up the ball that many times, and then lose by seven, it's tough,' he said.
Special teams also came up big for Cascade with junior Nathan Bergfeld returning the second-half kickoff 84 yards and a touchdown that gave the Cougars a 21-7 lead.
'Bergfeld has been outstanding for us all year, both on offense and defense,' Cascade Coach Daniel Franke said. 'Teams try everything they can to cover him and stop him, but he still makes plays. I couldn't ask anything more from him.'Cascade's Luke Recker pounded out 135 yards on 27 carries.'We try to be versatile and spread the offense out so Recker has a chance of getting some yards,' Frank said.Brandon Kinsey of CPU with 153 yards on 22 carries.
