SAN DIEGO - The San Diego Padres optioned Cascade's Colin Rea to Triple-A El Paso on Monday.
Rea was 3-2 with a 4.47 earned run average in 10 pitching appearances for the Padres, including nine starts. He was replaced on the roster by relief pitcher Keith Hessler.
Speculation is the move was made to reinforce a San Diego bullpen that was taxed by a 17-inning game over the weekend. Rea must spend 10 days in Triple-A before being eligible for a major league recall.
