Tanner Wessels passed for 251 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for 95 yards and a score as West Delaware opened the 2016 high school football season with a 48-0 win over Independence Friday night in Independence.
Caleb Kehrli scored on runs of 5, 11, 66 and 20 yards and totaled 180 yards on 13 rushes to lead a 282-yard rushing attack. Wessels competed 12 of 20 passes, hitting Kabryn Cook for a pair of touchdowns covering 58 and 28 yards.
The Hawks (1-0) totaled 538 yards of offense and held the Mustangs (0-1) to 41 rushing yards.

NORTH FAYETTE VALLEY 28, DECORAH 7 — Tanner Kuhens rushed for 108 yards and a touchdown and Trey Kuhens added 93 yards and three scores as the Tigers rolled in Decorah.
North Fayette Valley totaled 353 yards of offense, 209 on the ground.
Decorah's lone score came on a 65-yard pass from Brannan Hogan to Dawson Holkesvik.

SPRINGVILLE 55, CENTRAL CITY 13 — Cavanaugh Riley was in on five touchdowns as the Orioles won at home.
Riley rushed for 62 yards and two TDs and passed for 96 and three scores.
Zach March caught two TD passes, Andrew Blakely had one, and Blakely and James Fitzgerald returned interceptions for scores as Springville improved to 2-0.
Central City managed just 66 yards.
WEST BRANCH 40, WEST LIBERTY 20 — Sophomore Beau Cornwell scored three touchdowns and totaled 144 yards as the Bears won on the road.
In his first varsity start, Cornwell scored on runs of 31 and 27 yards and completed a 34-yard TD strike to Cooper Kabela as West Branch took a 19-0 halftime lead.
Luke Lenoch scored twice and gained 178 yards on the ground. He needs 57 yards to become the all-time leading rusher in West Branch history.

NORTH LINN 42, NORTH TAMA 6 — Levi Hinton rushed for 124 yards on 18 carries and scored three touchdowns as the Lynx won at home.
Ryan Miller ran nine times for 137 yards and two touchdowns and also caught five passes for 182 yards. Logan Novak completed eight passes for 92 yards. On defense, Logan Ward recovered a fumble in the end zone for a touchdown.
LONE TREE 66, TRI-COUNTY 0 — Trey Pierson completed 7 of 7 passes for 170 yards and scored six total touchdowns as the Lions shutout Tri-County at home.
Pierson passed for four touchdowns, ran for one and returned an interception for another. Jovonte Squiers caught five passes for 133 yards and three touchdowns along with a 34-yard touchdown run.
On defense, Brock Smith recorded two sacks, recovered two fumbles, and blocked a punt and Wesley Hotz had three tackles for a loss.
