Iowa men's basketball makes it 3 in a row with 72-62 win over Ohio State

IOWA CITY — Iowa took over the game in the second half and defeated Ohio State 72-62 in men's basketball Saturday at Carver-Hawkeye Arena,

The No. 25 Hawkeyes held the 17th-ranked Buckeyes to 37.3 percent from the field in winning their third-straight game and improving to 3-3 in the Big Ten (14-3 overall). OSU is 2-3, 12-4.

Iowa had a 9-0 run early in the second half to turn a 30-28 deficit into a 37-30 lead, and never again led by less than four points.

The win was marred by an ankle injury to Hawkeye junior forward Tyler Cook with a little over four minutes left. Cook was helped to the dressing room. He had 15 points and eight rebounds after missing Wednesday's game at Northwestern with a sore knee.

Luka Garza had 16 points for Iowa, Ryan Kriener 11, Joe Wieskamp 10.

Hawkeye junior Jordan Bohannon reached the 1,000-point career mark late in the game with a pair of free throws.

Ohio State led 26-24 at halftime. There were 12 lead changes in the half, with neither club leading by more than four points. The teams combined for 20 turnovers in the half. The Buckeyes finished with 20 of their own to Iowa's 14.

OSU forward Kaleb Wesson picked up his second foul in the game's third minute, and played just eight minutes in the half. He finished with two points after coming here averaging 17.1.

Iowa's next game is Wednesday at Penn State.
