Achey, Gladys Caroline Rekemeyer
Funeral services for Gladys Caroline Rekemeyer Achey, 95, of Tipton, who died Saturday, March 23, 2013, will be held Wednesday, March 27, at 11 a.m. at United Church of Christ, Tipton. The Rev. David Lorenzen will officiate. There will be a visitation at Fry Funeral Home on Tuesday, March 26, from 4 to 7 p.m. Burial will be at Inland Cemetery, Bennett.
Gladys was born Oct. 7, 1917, in rural Bennett the daughter of Louis Henry and Hannah Louise (Stanton) Rekemeyer. She graduated from Bennett High School. On Nov. 25, 1936, Gladys was united in marriage to Edward Achey in Rock Island, Ill. She was employed as a seamstress and in retail sales.
Gladys was a member of the United Church of Christ, Tipton, Garden Club, Quilt Club, Refurbishing Committee, Christian Education Committee, Martha's Circle, Women's Executive Board, was a Cub Scout leader, and a Sunday school teacher.
Gladys is survived by her daughters, Carolyn (Jim) Selfridge of Cedar Rapids, Patty Achey (Ken) Cutts of Cedar Falls and Denise (Dennis) Travis of Cedar Rapids; sons, Roland (Cheryl) Achey of Amana, Keith (Cheryl) Achey of Cedar Rapids and Leon “Buzz” (Barb) Achey of Tipton; six grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; sisters, Lois (Dick) Moon and Marjorie Moffit, both of Tipton; and brother, Dean Rekemeyer of Anamosa.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ed; brothers, Warren, Dale and Harlan; sister, Lois Fern; two infant brothers, Dean Leroy and William; granddaughter, Ellen Achey Cutts; and twin infant granddaughters.
A general memorial fund has been established in memory of Gladys.
