Eleanor M. Wichmann, 86, formerly of Amana, passed away Friday, June 3, 2016, at the Riverside Care Center in Ames. Her memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 28, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Homestead.
Born on Nov. 29, 1929, near Hartley, Iowa, Eleanor was the daughter of Arnold H. and Alfreda Brandt Wacker. Eleanor was baptized in January 1930. Her family moved to rural Victor, where she attended St. John's Lutheran grade school and was confirmed on May 23, 1943. She graduated from high school in Marengo in 1947.
Eleanor married Calvin E. Cooper on March 14, 1948, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids. He died on Aug. 19, 1960. On June 5, 1963, she married Clarence J. Wichmann in Cedar Rapids, where they lived for several years before moving to Amana.
Eleanor was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church near Homestead and was a ladies' aid member for 15 years. She worked several jobs, the last one being at The Kitchen Sink in Amana. She enjoyed needlepoint and cross stitch, helping quilt for Lutheran World Relief and watching baseball games in Cedar Rapids with Clarence.
Eleanor is survived by one son, Gary E. (Pam) Cooper of Ames; two grandchildren, Amy (Scott) Zink of Denver, Colo., and Andy (Helga) Cooper of Hanna, Wyo.; three great-grandsons, Garrett, Jordan and Jonas; one great-granddaughter, Emma; and nieces and nephews.
Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clarence; and her sisters, Ruth Schumacher, Jane Hinrichs and Mary Green.
