Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz opens his news conference Tuesday with a grim injury update. OLB Tyler Nielsen suffered a broken vertebrae in his neck either at Michigan or last Saturday against Michigan State. Ferentz said he's out "weeks." Likely, he's out for the rest of the season. Iowa's LB situation has become a puzzle with all three starters from the beginning of the season being injured.
Ferentz talks about SS Tyler Sash's lateral to Micah Hyde last Saturday, offers an update on DC Norm Parker, answers a question on if Iowa's best effort was last week and a question about the Big Ten.
Here, Ferentz discusses Iowa's use of the 3-4 defense last week against MSU, QB Ricky Stanzi and his Heisman chances and whether or not he'll show his team the first three quarters of last season's topsy-turvy victory over Indiana.
True freshman running back Marcus Coker is a topic. A lot of fans finally got their wish and saw him play last week. Of course, when it matter, it was Adam Robinson carrying the ball. Also, he's asked about the "hangover" possibility after a big win. Also, the Demi-Ashton question comes up here. Interesting answer.
Here, Ferentz talks about how he thought at the beginning of the season that Iowa could win every game on its schedule or lose every game. Also, he touches on the development of wide receiver Marvin McNutt and CB Shaun Prater's performance last Saturday.
Ferentz talks about the possibility of being mobbed running off the field every Saturday. Also, LB Jeremiha Hunter and his health is discussed. A lot has fallen on the shoulders of James Morris. Ferentz is asked about the true freshman middle linebacker here.
Ferentz discusses the game that junior TE Brad Herman had Saturday and how TEs are used in Iowa's offense.
