Bates, Robert E.
Robert E. Bates, 84, of Delhi, died Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2010, at his home near Delhi. There will be no services; Robert was cremated.
Robert was born Feb. 12, 1926, at Winfield, Kan., to Lewis and Avis (Barnthouse) Bates. He was raised and educated in the area, graduating from Winfield High School in 1944. He served honorably in the United States Army from June 1944 until April 1946. He later graduated from Wichita State University.
Robert was united in marriage to Betty Cook on Nov. 26, 1948, in Missouri. Two children where born to this union. In 1962, they moved to Marion, Iowa, where Robert was employed with Rockwell-Collins. After 24 years with Rockwell-Collins, he retired in 1986. Since 1990, Robert and Betty have resided near Delhi.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Betty; one son, Reid (Gwenn) Bates of Baton Rouge, La.; one daughter, Barbara Bates of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents.
