Roy C. Bonham, 91, of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2016, at Hiawatha Care Center. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 19, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. The Rev. Michael Metz will officiate at the service. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 18, at the funeral home. Burial will be at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
He was born Sept. 14, 1924, at home on Fourth Avenue SW, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The home was lost to the Flood of 2008. His parents were Charles Bonham and Beatrice (Howard) Bonham.
He was united in marriage to Evelyn Alice Burianek on Aug. 3, 1946.
Left to honor his memory include his children, Karen (Lance) Humbert, Cedar Rapids, and KC Bonham, League City, Texas; seven grandchildren; 20 great- grandchildren; 14 great-great-grandchildren; and his companion, Elizabeth Shreffler.
Roy worked for Collins Radio and then Rockwell Collins for 38 years, starting in 1949. He was an engineer and started the Rockwell plant and ran it in Mason City. During his years at Collins Radio, he was a member, past president and president of the board for Collins Community Credit Union.
Following retirement, Roy, along with fellow retirees, made wooden toys for children. From time to time he was known to perform graveside committal services. He was a 50-year member of the local Shriners.
"We wish to thank all of Dad's doctors and support team for the care with his medical issues, as well as the Hiawatha Care Center for the tender loving care of both Dad and our Mother before him. The support shown to our family has been beyond belief. Thank you."
