Collins, JoEtta
JoEtta Collins, 90, a resident of Cedar Rapids since 1945, died Nov. 10, 2011, following a brief illness. A service to celebrate JoEtta's life is scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 14, at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories, with a visitation Sunday evening from 6 to 8. Pastor W.C. Perkins will be officiating.
Born in Godfrey, Ill., on May 5, 1921, she graduated from Alton High School and Washington Technical School of Cosmetology in St. Louis, Mo. JoEtta married John W. Collins on Aug. 30, 1943, in St. Louis. She worked at Quaker Oats in Cedar Rapids for 20 years.
JoEtta was a very active member of Bethel A.M.E. Church. She served as Sunday school superintendent and teacher, usher, layperson, missionary and Fleur De Lis. JoEtta was also a long-standing member of Church Women United.
Preceding her in death were her father, Baker Price, and her mother, Josie; her husband, John Wesley Collins; two sons, James William and John W. III; one daughter, Joyce Elaine; three brothers, Oscar, Henry and Harry Price; and one great-grandchild, Jaylen Collins.
Survivors include three grandchildren, Tony (Theresa) Collins, Montyne (Rob) Kasper and Candace Collins; a very special granddaughter, Brenda (Chad) Rodgers; eight great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to The American Cancer Society in JoEtta's name.
