IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) - The Iowa City Community School District has acknowledged violating the state's open records law as part of a settlement with two residents who sued the district.
The residents sought last week to dismiss the case after the school district admitted wrongdoing and agreed to pay the residents' court costs of nearly $5,000.
Edwin Stone, a parent in the district, and David Gurwell, former assistant director of the district's physical plant, filed the lawsuit last year, saying the district refused to provide them with construction project records they had repeatedly requested.
In a statement to Stone and Gurwell, the district acknowledged that the documents requested "were subject to the Iowa Open Records Act and should have been provided ... without the need for litigation."
