Letter: Hurrah for return of county fairs

I grew up on a farm in Linn County. I had a brother, Jim, and he showed beef at the Linn County Fair. We had neighbors, and they had dairy cows. They also had a son named Jim. He showed dairy livestock. He had a sister, Judy, my age, and at that time there was a small midway. We rode the merry-go-round over and over. We kept running to our dads for change to ride. They reached into the pockets of their bibbed overalls with big smiles on their faces to oblige us.
At that time they had a building with a loft and cots so exhibitors could spend the night.
After I married, we lived north of Alburnett. We had a boy and two girls and they showed livestock at the fair. It was the highlight of their summer. Then we had two grandsons that exhibited there. For years there wasn't a midway. Now they have a small one again.
It's fair time. So many happy memories.
