IOWA CITY - A warning to the rest of the state: Drew Cook and Iowa City Regina look more determined than ever following that loss two weeks ago.
Cook threw for 210 yards and four touchdowns as the second-ranked Regals rolled Sigourney-Keota, 49-6, last night in a Class 1A district game at Regina Field.
Regina (2-1, 1-0) made two impressive goal-line stands in the second quarter and recorded 12 tackles for loss in the game.
'We wanted to prove ourselves in a way,” Cook said. 'We came in and did that. The offense was clicking and the defense just played a heck of a game.”
Cook - like many Regal starters - played only one series in the second half, but the Iowa commit looked sharp from the start. He threw TD passes on Regina's first two drives, including a 27-yard toss to Ethan Suchomel on his first pass attempt.
At the end of the first half, Cook's screen pass to Jake Brinkman turned into an 83-yard touchdown and a 35-0 lead. Cook added a 17-yard score to Nick Phillips in the third quarter.
Cook connected with six receivers and averaged more than 12 yards per pass attempt.
'We have a lot of route combinations specified to target different guys,” Cook said. 'That's where we're blessed to have those kinds of receivers.”
In the second quarter, S-K (1-2, 0-1) got inside Regina's 5-yard line twice but couldn't score.
The Savage Cobras tried a 20-yard field goal, but the kick hit the left upright. After forcing a Regina fumble, S-K had a second-and-goal from the 1-yard line. Regina made three straight stops at the line of scrimmage.
'Goal line, it's no fooling around,” said Brinkman, Regina's defensive captain. 'You just find somebody, go hit them and do what you need to do for them not to get in the end zone.”
Regina's Nathan Stenger caught three passes for 74 yards and a TD.
