George "Red" Campbell, 76, a lifelong resident of Anamosa, died Monday, April 24, 2017, at home, surrounded by his family.
A Celebration of Life will be Friday, April 28, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Anamosa Legion Hall, 300 Chamber Ct., Anamosa. The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 29, at Viola Methodist Church.
George was born Oct. 10, 1940, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, son of Robert and Beatrice Nuss Campbell. He married Carolynn Fitkin on Dec. 17, 1960, in Preston, Minn. He graduated from Anamosa High School and attended DeVry Technical School. He established Red's Service/Towing in 1962.
He was a dedicated community member, as well as an Eagle Scout, Mason, Shriner, a member of the Anamosa Lions Club, and an Anamosa firefighter for 34 years, including a term as fire chief. He also was a member of the United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Carolynn Campbell; children, Kelly Wesley (Marty), Kristine May (James), Kimberly Campbell (Steve Nordby) and Tom Campbell (Julie Smith); 10 grandchildren; a great- grandson; a brother, David Campbell; two sisters, Becky Howe and Cathy Knopp; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Beatrice Campbell; and siblings, Sally Bowen and Robert Campbell Jr.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests any memorials be made to Above and Beyond Hospice, 417 E. First St., Monticello, IA 52310.
