FLORENCE "SUE" MEEHAN

Florence "Sue" Leona Walz Meehan died peacefully at her home in Anamosa on Nov. 23, 2015. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 27, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Anamosa. Visita-tion will be from 4 until 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 25, at Goettsch Funeral Home in Anamosa, where a parish vigil service will be at 3:30 p.m. Burial will be at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery in Anamosa following the Mass.
Remembrances may be given in honor of Sue Meehan to St. Patrick's Elementary School of Anamosa, to UnityPoint Hospice of Cedar Rapids or a charity of choice.
She was wife of the late Eugene Francis Meehan; mother of Barb (Denny) Teymer of Council Bluffs, Pat (Margie) Meehan of Hopkinton, Peg Meehan of Independence, Chuck (Camille) Meehan of Shreveport, La., Jean Meehan of Anamosa and Jim (Sarah) Meehan of Iowa City; and grand-mother of 15 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Sue was born in Elkader, Iowa, on April 7, 1922, to Edward (Jake) and Clara Pluemer Walz. She married Eugene "Gene" Meehan on Oct. 21, 1943, at St. Joseph's Church in Elkader. She and Gene lived in many small towns in Eastern Iowa before coming to Anamosa in 1956.
Sue was a homemaker, worked at Ben Franklin, Tyler and Downing Grocery Store, and also the Anamosa school district, where she retireed as custodian in 1986. She and her husband, Gene, also owned and operated Meehan General Store in Stone City, Iowa, from 1965 to 1970.
Sue was preceded in death by her husband, Gene Meehan; her granddaughter, Louise; and her nine sisters and brothers.
Sue was an avid card player. She loved and cherished the times she was able to spend with her family and friends and always bidding farewell with the words, "Be nice to old ladies."
The family of Sue would like to thank all those who helped with her care, especially UnityPoint Hospice. Your loving care and friendship with our mother will always be remembered.
