Russell Postel, 79, died Sunday, June 4, 2017, at the Anamosa Care Center following a brief illness. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 8, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Anamosa, where friends may greet the family after 10 a.m. Interment will be in the Wilcox Cemetery, Viola. The Rev. Katherine Franzenburg will officiate at the services. Goettsch Funeral Home has been entrusted with the services. Thoughts, memories and condolences may be left at www.goettschonline.com.
Surviviors include his wife, Jean; a daughter, Barbara (Cheyenne) Lerch, Anamosa; three grandchildren, Steven Lerch, Anamosa, Molly (Blake) Hubler, Olin, and Kelly (Chris) Ainesworth, Cedar Rapids; a great-grandson, Cullen Hubler; two brothers, Curt (Lou) Postel, Santa Rosa, Fla., and Bing (Dorothy) Postel, Anamosa; and a sister-in-law, Mary Postel, Anamosa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, William; a sister, Lois Smith; and a brother, George.
Russell Elwin Postel was born Nov. 3, 1937, in Jones County, Iowa. He was the son of Lyman and Dorothy Grassfield Postel. Russell graduated from Viola High School in 1955. He went to work at Collins Radio in Cedar Rapids. Russ married Jean Ricklefs on Aug. 4, 1957, at St. Paul Lutheran Church. Russ was a foreman, a department supervisor and finished his career at Collins working in contract management, retiring in 1990. In retirement, he transferred cars for Wayne Hall Chrysler-Jeep-Dodge and played a lot of golf at Fawn Creek.
Russ was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, where he sang in the church choir, served on the church council and the funeral lunch committee. He was also a member of the Anamosa Masonic Lodge and the Chamber Ambassadors.
