Spear, Phyllis Arlene
Phyllis Arlene Spear, 82, of Marion, formerly of Stanwood, died peacefully Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2010, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Stanwood Union Church. Burial: Stanwood Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Chapman Funeral Home, Clarence.
Survivors include sons, Barry (Cari) Spear of Ankeny, and Dennis (Tricia) Spear of Toddville; daughter, Kathryn Labatad of Brentwood, Tenn.; seven grandchildren, Kevin Spear of Charlotte, N.C., Stephanie Spear Hughes of Holly Spring, N.C., Nikki Gordinier of West Des Moines, Lori Spear Hannan of Marion, Chelsea Spear of Toddville, Amber (Fell) Rawlins of Stockton, Calif., and Malia Labatad of Stockton, Calif.
Arlene is also survived by 16 great-grandchildren, four nieces, one nephew and many great-nieces and nephews.
She was born Aug. 29, 1928. She married Cecil Spear on Dec. 8, 1946. Arlene graduated in 1946 from Stanwood High School. Cecil and Arlene enjoyed many traveling adventures while camping across the U.S. After retirement, they moved to Marion, Iowa, and split many of their winters between Texas and Arizona.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions should be made to Camp Courageous, Stanwood Union Church or a charitable organization of choice.
