Garret Cass, 77, died Monday, Nov. 23, 2015, at his home following an extended illness. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 30, at the United Methodist Church, Anamosa, with interment in Hopkinton Cemetery. The Rev. Marty Schuh-macher will officiate at the services. Friends may call from 2 until 5 p.m. Sunday at Goettsch Funeral Home, Anamosa, where Masonic services will be at 5 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Above and Beyond Hospice or the Anamosa United Methodist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Jan; two daughters, Michele (Eldon) Oberheu, Cedar Rapids, and Marcia (Chad) Steffen, Tempe, Ariz.; four grandchildren, Samantha (Nick) Peiffer and Dustin Oberheu, both of Cedar Rapids, and Jacob and Abigail Steffen, Tempe, Ariz.; three sisters, Loretta Smith, Hopkinton, Lucille Barger, Daytona Beach, Fla., and Lois Ann (Delbert) Hansen, Cheyenne, Wyo.; Jan's family, Lois (Dave) Otto, Moses Lake, Wash., Robert (Dawn Ziemer) Flannagan, Delhi, and Scott Otto, Richland, Wash.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a granddaughter, Kaitlyn Steffen.
Garret Wayne Cass was born Sept. 19, 1938, in Iowa City, Iowa, the son of Floyd and Wilma Williams Cass. Garret graduated from Monticello Community Schools in 1957. He was employed at Standard Oil Station in Anamosa owned by John Dorothy. Garret married Janice Flannagan on April 21, 1962, at the United Methodist Church, Anamosa. In the fall of 1964, Garret started working for Zimmerman Hall and later Wayne Hall Chrysler-Jeep-Dodge, where he was actively employed until three weeks ago.
Garret was involved in the Anamosa Ambulance Service for the past 40 years and worked as a part-time police officer for Anamosa, Monticello, Oxford Junction and Wyoming.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church and, for 50 years, the Anamosa Mason Lodge, where he had been secretary for 45 years. He also had been active in the Anamosa Jaycees.
To his friends and co-workers, Garret was known as GMan.
