Ruth Edwards, 90, of Anamosa, died Tuesday morning, Oct. 18, 2016, at Pinicon Place, Anamosa, following a diagnosis of cancer to which she courageously declined treatment and decided to live her life to its fullest.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21, at First Congregational United Church of Christ, Anamosa. The Rev. Greg Griffin will officiate at the services. Interment will be in the Riverside Cemetery, Anamosa. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Goettsch Funeral Home, Anamosa. Thoughts, memories and condolences may be left at www.goettschonline.com. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Congregational United Church of Christ, Anamosa.
Surviving are two children, Linda Horning, Cedar Rapids, and Darryl (Dee) Edwards, Allen, Texas; five grandchildren, Brad (Lisa) Edwards, Gennie (Jon) Martens, Mindy (Chad) Bascom, Amy Throgmartin and Christine Edwards; 12 great-grandchildren, Cierra Simmons, Jaylon Throgmartin, Mikayla Edwards, Serena, Alexis, Delaney, Lillyan and Kinnick Bascom, Kaitlyn, Erik and Charlotte Martens and Emma Lopez-Edwards; a brother, John (Marge) Hasler, Anamosa; three sisters, Donna (Johnnie) Jones and Pat Lubben, all of Anamosa, and Irene Behrends, Marion; and a sister-in-law, Lois Edwards, Omaha, Neb.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Junior; a son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Donna Edwards; a son-in-law, Jack Horning; and great-grandchildren, Brisbane, Maria and Poppy.
Ruth Alice Hasler was born Oct. 29, 1925, at Sand Springs, Iowa. She was the daughter of Fred and Ethel Chapman, Hasler. She received her early education in the Cass Township Schools. Later in life, she completed her GED. Ruth Hasler and Earl Edwards Jr. were married Nov. 5, 1943, at First Congregational Parsonage in Anamosa. The couple farmed in Linn County near Prairieburg with their son and grandson. They retired from farming and moved to Anamosa in September of 2007. The couple loved to travel all over the United States and made a special trip to Switzerland as a gift from their children. Family was very important to Ruth, as she and her siblings continued to gather for a weekly game of dominos on Mondays until the very end.
