Jeff Wallace takes over at Regina

Apr. 28, 2016 4:54 pm
IOWA CITY — Jeff Wallace inherits a loaded roster for his second tour of duty.
Wallace was named girls' basketball coach at Iowa City Regina, pending board approval, on Thursday.
He succeeds Matt Bolger, who led the Regals to a 46-5 mark in the past two seasons, including a 25-1, Class 2A state-semifinal campaign last season.
'We are pleased to have Jeff back at Regina and excited for the future of our girls basketball program,' Regina athletics director Ryan O'Hern said in a release. 'His previous success at Regina speaks for itself. He brings great experience, passion, and a solid plan to build upon the success our team has had the past two years. He has a great understanding of the game and knows how to get the best out of his players.'
Wallace led the Regals to a 120-30 mark in his first stint, in 2000-06. The 2003 team went 25-3 and reached the 2A state semifinals.
Next year's Regina squad returns 71 percent of its scoring, including first-team all-stater Mary Crompton, who will be a junior. It also welcomes Alex Wiese, a sophomore-to-be who transferred from Tipton.
Wallace's daughter, Kennedy, also will be a sophomore.
