John Eilers, 62, died Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2015, at Joan and Ed Hemphill Hospice in St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids, following an illness of several months.
A celebration of John's life will be held with a gathering from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 28, at the Goettsch Funeral Home, Anamosa.
Surviving are his wife, Diann; a stepdaughter, Nichole Lovell and fiance Jarrod Wiles, La Porte City; three stepgrand-children, Mackenzie Yarrington, Maxtin Lovell and Tyra Wiles; his father, Bob Eilers, Anamosa; and siblings, Phil (Kim) Eilers, Anamosa, Becky (Steve) Brown, Springville, and Galen (Sue) Eilers, Janesville.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Donna Doloris Eilers; his brother, Paul Thomas Eilers; and his father-in-law, Bill Marsh.
John Robert Eilers was born Jan. 16, 1953, in Anamosa, Iowa, the son of Robert and Donna Davidson Eilers. John graduated with the class of 1971 from Anamosa Community Schools. At the age of 16, he started working at Family Foods Grocery Store in Anamosa. He worked in the grocery department for many years, and later became a meat cutter. John and Diann Marsh were married on April 11, 1992, at First Congregational Church in Anamosa. He retired in 2011. When John was not working, he loved to hunt and fish.
