Marek, Arthur Edward
Arthur Edward Marek, 91, of Anamosa, died Friday, Aug. 5, 2011, at the Anamosa Care Center.
Services will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 9, 2011, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Anamosa. Father Wayne Droessler will officiate at the service. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 8, 2011, at Goettsch Funeral Home in Anamosa. A scripture service will be held at 4:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Interment will be at the Holycross Cemetery in Anamosa. Thoughts, memories and condolences may be left at .
Surviving is his wife, Leona; three children, Marv (Suzanne) Marek of Anamosa, Linda (Loras) Lyons of Cascade and Connie (Jim) Egger of Palmer, Alaska; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandson. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mike and Anna Marek.
Arthur Edward Marek was born April 20, 1920, near Prairieburg, Iowa. He was the son of Mike and Anna Koska Marek. He attended Frozen Hill School and after moving to a farm east of Anamosa he attended Anamosa High School where he graduated in 1939. On June 30, 1942, Arthur and Leona Garien were united in marriage. Later in 1942 he left to serve in the United States Army. He worked for Gambles for many years and in 1959 purchased the store and ran it until his retirement in 1984. He was a scout master, American Legion member, past president and board member of the Anamosa Chamber of Commerce, Anamosa city councilman and mayor of Anamosa, and longtime member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church. He enjoyed fishing, spending time in his garden and growing his many plants.
