IOWA CITY - Randy Larson will not return as head boys' basketball coach at Iowa City Regina, Larson and Regals athletics director Bret Jones confirmed Friday night.
"We have advertised for a head boys' basketball coach,' Jones said, adding he cannot say much because it is a personnel decision. 'It's on our website.'
A well-known local attorney, restaurant owner and director of the annual Prime Time League for college players, Larson has been at Regina for seven seasons, compiling a 95-69 record.
That included a 13-33 mark in his first two years. His 2013-14 team finished 19-4, losing a Class 2A district final Tuesday to Mount Vernon.
"(Jones) said they wanted to go in a different direction," Larson said, adding the school wanted him to resign but he would not do that because he would be perceived by his team and others as a quitter.
"I just think the crux of it is it's a new AD and he wants to make his mark."
