A federal judge has ordered a company accused of abusing mentally disabled workers to pay $1.76 million to those workers.
According to the suit, Henry's Turkey Service, which is based in Texas, housed mentally disabled men in a rundown facility in Atalissa and put them men to work at West Liberty Foods. U.S. District Judge Harold Vietor said the company underpayed 31 workers, according the the Associated Press.
Documents filed earlier this month showed the company only paid them men $65 a month for full-time work. The Atalissa structure were the men lived was shut down in 2009 after they were found to be living in substandard conditions.
