Joseph Dunne, 78, of Maquoketa, passed away Monday, June 15, 2015. His funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday, June 19, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Otter Creek, Iowa. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 18, at Lahey Funeral Home in Maquoketa with a vigil service at 8 p.m. Burial will be at St. Lawrence Catholic Cemetery, Otter Creek.
Joseph Charles Dunne was born on Jan. 21, 1937, in Jackson County, Iowa, to parents Joseph M. and Anna (Stanisha) Dunne. He was united in marriage to Jean "Duffy" Hughes on Nov. 10, 1956, at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Temple Hill, Cascade, Iowa. Joseph farmed all his life in Otter Creek. He was an active member of Alcoholics Anonymous. With his gentle spirit, kind heart and earthly wisdom he helped and touched the lives of many people for 40 years. He was also a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Otter Creek.
Joseph is survived by his wife, Jean; children, Gary (Martha) Dunne of Otter Creek, Pat (Jody) Dunne of Andrew, Kevin (Allison) Dunne of Orlando, Fla., Brian (Wendy) Dunne of Andrew, Phillip (Lanie) Dunne of Marion and JoEllen (Terry) McGugan of Denver, Colo.; 21 grandchildren; one
great-grandchild; his sister, Donna (Maurice) Sturm of Key West; his brother, Bill (Jean) Dunne of Bernard; brothers-in-law, Robert (Donna) Hughes of Davenport and Neil Donovan of Bernard; and sisters-in-law, Katie Hughes and Kay Hughes, both of Cascade.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Ellen Donovan; and two brothers-in-law, Pat Hughes and Dave Hughes.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his memory to Hospice of Jackson County or St. Lawrence Catholic Church.
