Brian W. Butts, 56, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Vinton, Iowa, and Columbus, Ohio, died Monday, Aug. 25, 2014, at UnityPoint Health – St. Luke's Living Center East in Cedar Rapids following an extended illness.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 30, at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel, 212 E. Sixth St., Vinton. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Vinton. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 29, at the funeral home.
A memorial fund has been established.

Brian was born Oct. 27, 1957, in Vinton to Donald and Rachel (Alpers) Butts. He attended school in Vinton and graduated from Washington High School in Vinton with the class of 1976. He received his associate degree in graphic communications from Columbus State Community College in Columbus, Ohio. Brian was united in marriage to Cathy Davisson in September 1978; they later divorced.
Brian was an avid NASCAR and Mark Martin fan and also a diehard Iowa Hawkeye. He loved spending time with his family and friends. Most of all Brian loved his dogs, Max, Zoe and Maude.
He is survived by his children, Jason W. (Lindsey O'Brine) Butts, Renee Butts and Kelli (Josh) Rozendaal, all of Cedar Rapids; his very special grandchildren, Anaysia Perkins and Jaylen Butts; his brother, Jeff Butts of Wichita, Kan.; his stepmother, Shirley Butts, and his stepsister, Dawana (Rick) Trasak, both of Vinton; his stepbrother, Cliff Tharp of Garrison; many nieces, nephews and cousins; and his dog, Maude Butts.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald W. Butts; and his mother, Rachel D. Butts.
Phillips Funeral Home in Vinton is in charge of arrangements.
