Hebert, Virginia L. 'Ginni'
Virginia L. “Ginni” Hebert, 80, formerly of 419 Terrace Rd., Iowa City, died Sunday, Feb. 6, 2011, at Windmill Manor in Coralville. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Lensing Funeral Service, Iowa City. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Iowa City, with the Rev. Michael Phillips officiating. Burial will be at a later date in the Brick Chapel Cemetery, east of Iowa City.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to Elder Services Inc., RSVP.
Ginni was born Dec. 5, 1930, in Oxford, Iowa, the daughter of Cyril and Esther (Schmidt) Bireline. Graduating from Iowa City High School in 1948, Ginni attended the University of Iowa and the St. Francis School of Nursing. A lifelong Iowa City resident, she worked as a secretary at the University of Iowa. She married Donald Hebert on Jan. 26, 1957, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Iowa City.
Ginni was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church and was a dedicated volunteer for RSVP, The Rock ‘N Read Program and at the Johnson County Courthouse as a visitors assistant. She had served on the boards of the Iowa City High School Alumni, RSVP and Iowa City Parks and Recreation Department.
Survivors include her children, Chuck Hebert (Melissa) of Solon, Laura Hebert of Tuscaloosa, Ala., and William “Bill” Hebert (Lori) of Oakland, Calif.; four grandchildren, Morgan, Rachel, Nicole and Jordan; and two sisters, Marilyn Davisson and Barbara Bireline.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Don in July 2001; a sister, Mary “Babe” Hanrahan; and a brother, Robert Bireline.
