Homer E. Robison, 100, of Harper, passed away Saturday, Dec. 19, 2015, at the hospice center at Mercy Iowa City.
Homer was born Nov. 7, 1915, in South English, Iowa, to Walter and Iva Jane Robison, and attended South English Public Schools.
He served as a staff sergeant with the U.S. Army in Europe during World War II. As a member of the 89th Infantry Division, Homer participated in the liberation of Ohrdruf which was the first of many concentration camps in Germany to be liberated.
After being honorably discharged from the Army, he returned to the South English area where he married Gwenivere Davisson from North English on May 4, 1046, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua.
While interested in both trains and horses throughout his life, Homer truly enjoyed farming, which he did for 45 years. During the 1950s and 1960s, he managed the Harper Lumber Yard, where he met a great number of good people in the farming community.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Lois; and his wife, Gwen.
Survivors include three children, Ron (Sarah) of Russellville, Ark., Craig (Verrena) of Harper and Carol (Randy) Tompkins of Grandview; nephew, Vernon (Donna) Brubaker of Cedar Rapids; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
A private family memorial service will be at a future date.
