Myra Belle Davisson was born Jan. 6, 1929, near Winside, Neb., the daughter of Clifford and Meta (Otte) Francis. She graduated from Rockford High School in Rockford, Iowa. On Dec. 31, 1947, Myra was united in marriage to Verl Davisson at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. They made their home in the Wellman community. Myra worked for the United States Postal Service as a clerk for nine years and served as the Wellman post master for 14 years, retiring in 1989. She enjoyed making knitted baby hats for newborns at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, cooking, baking and spending time with her grandchildren. Myra was a member of the Kalona United Methodist Church and the American Legion Auxiliary. She was a former member of the Embroidery Club and Eastern Star. Myra died Monday, May 18, 2015, at the Pleasantview Home in Kalona at the age of 86 years.
Myra is survived by three sons, Raymond (Barb) of Davenport, Dennis (Nancy) of Longmont, Colo., and Keith (Diane) of Kalona; five grandchildren, Heather Davisson of Delray Beach, Fla., Chad (Sara) Davisson of Bixby, Okla., Angie Johnson of Davenport, Dana (Nick) Striegel of Kalona and Ross (Jamie) Davisson of Kalona; 10 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Wanda Gruis of Rudd.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Verl.
Celebration of Life Service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 21, at the Kalona United Methodist Church. Pastor Gerry Kahler will officiate. Burial will be in the Wellman Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 20, at the Yoder-Powell Funeral Home in Kalona.
A memorial fund has been established for the Kalona United Methodist Church, Pleasantview Home and Iowa City Hospice.
