Following his education, he worked for Clinton Machine and Foundry and Morris Construction for several years. He married Gayle Hughes on July 31, 1976, in Monticello. She preceded him in death on Nov. 13, 2010. He worked for Energy Manufacturing Co., from which he retired in 2003. Brownie and Gayle owned and operated Brownies Canoe Rental for several years. They enjoyed their yearly trips to the Old Threshers Reunion. Brownie enjoyed fishing and stock car racing, in which he raced around area tracks. Brownie loved working in his garden and keeping his yard beautiful. Feeding the birds and watching the many different species come and go was a favorite pastime.
