Lucile Von Sprecken, 93, of Wyoming, passed away Thursday, Feb. 26, 2015, at her home. Her funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 7, at Zion American Lutheran Church in Wyoming. A visitation will be Friday, March 6, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Lahey Funeral Home in Wyoming. Burial will be in Wyoming Cemetery.
Lucile Jansen was born Feb. 15, 1922, to Arthur and Anna (Rathje) Jansen in rural Center Junction, Iowa. They later moved near Olin. She attended the country grade school. She graduated from Wyoming High School in 1939. Lucile attended classes at the American Institute of Commerce in Davenport. She was employed as a bookkeeper at L.K. Wilda's Appliance Store in Davenport, then as a bookkeeper at Citizens State Bank in Wyoming and at First Federal Savings and Loan in Davenport. On Aug. 20, 1944, she was united in marriage to Laverne Von Sprecken at Zion Lutheran Church in Davenport. They moved to a farm near Hale and lived their entire married life there. Upon the sudden death of LaVerne in a train-pickup accident on Dec. 17, 1955, a farm sale was held. Lucile was hired as a bookkeeper at Citizens State Bank in Wyoming and purchased a home across from the school. During her career at the bank, she was promoted to assistant cashier and later to cashier and vice-president. She retired July 31, 1988, after 35 years of service.
She volunteered at the Senior Community Center by taking reservations for the meals. She was given the Volunteer of the Year award from Jones County for helping at the center.
She is survived by three children, Judy (Ben) Prusia, Jean (Rich) Barchman and Jerry (Robin Balltyne) Von Sprecken; 12 grand-children; and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one brother, Arnold; one sister, Emily; and a grandchild, Lavern Prusia.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Zion American Lutheran Church or a charity of your choice.
