Duncan, Marie
Marie Duncan, 90, of Columbus Junction, died Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2010, at Colonial Manor Care Center in Columbus Junction. Funeral services will be Saturday, Aug. 7, at 11 a.m. at the Stacy-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services in Columbus Junction. Hospice Chaplain Harold Schutte will officiate. Casketbearers will be James Buser, Eric Strathman, Jeremy Kalous, Matt Buser, Ben Strathman, Ethan Strathman, Danny Buser and Hunter Kalous. Burial will be in the Columbus City Cemetery. Following the committal there will be a time of food and fellowship at the Masonic Hall and Community Center in Columbus City. Visitation will be held on Friday, Aug. 6, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Marie C. Jones was born Sept. 15, 1919, in Cotter, Iowa, the daughter of John P. and Geniveve B. (Bell) Jones. On Nov. 4, 1939, Marie was united in marriage to Lyle Blair Duncan in Cotter. Marie was a graduate of Cotter High School and Brown School of Commerce in Iowa City. She was a member of the Cotter Guild and the Order of the Eastern Star. Marie was a secretary for Reaney & Reaney Law Office in Columbus Junction for 18 years and then worked at Kent Feeds' Nutrition Department in Muscatine for 15 years. She was a member of the Cotter Presbyterian Church, where she taught Sunday school and was Sunday school superintendent. She was an excellent seamstress and enjoyed raising roses and creating ceramic figurines.
Marie will be dearly missed by her daughters, Pam and her husband, Bud Selk, of De Witte and Sally and her husband, Ray Buser, of Fairfax; three grandchildren, James Buser and his wife, Patty, Sheri Strathman and her husband, Eric, and Brenda Kalous and her husband, Jeremy; 10 great-grandchildren, Matt, Allison, Ben, Carli, Kaitlin, Danny, Ethan, Abbi, Hunter and Graci; and her sister, Jean B. Miksch of Washington.
Marie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Blair in 1995; her infant son, Jerry Blair; two brothers, Darold and Russel; and one sister, Freeda M. Boynton Jones.
Memorials may be directed to the Cotter Presbyterian Church or Iowa Hospice in Marie's name.
