Kernels score twice in 9th for 2-0 win at Clinton

CLINTON - Brett Doe doubled in a pair of runs in the top of the ninth inning to give the Cedar Rapids Kernels a 2-0 victory Saturday night over the Clinton LumberKings.

Doe's winner came after Edgar Corcino and T.J. White singled with two outs. Three of Cedar Rapids' seven hits in the game came in the ninth.

Starting pitcher Sam Gibbons (7-3) was beyond brilliant in eight innings, retiring 24 of the 25 hitters he faced in eight innings. The only baserunner the entire game for Clinton was Arby Fields, who reached on an infield single with two outs in the sixth.

Gibbons struck out 12. Michael Theofanapoulos pitched a perfect ninth for his first save.
